On October 3rd, 2026, the Nigerian Community in Skåne (NCS) proudly celebrated Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary in Malmö under the inspiring theme, “Celebrating Our Heritage, Inspiring Our Future.”
The celebration brought together Nigerians, friends, families, and representatives from various African communities, creating a vibrant atmosphere of unity, culture, and friendship. We were also honoured by the presence of the Chairperson of Out of Africa, alongside other distinguished community leaders and guests who joined us in celebrating this important milestone.
The event showcased the richness and diversity of Nigerian heritage through traditional attire, cultural displays, music and dance, games, Nigerian cuisine, and other engaging activities. It provided an opportunity to reflect on our history, celebrate our cultural identity, and pass the values and traditions that define us to the younger generation.
Beyond celebrating independence, the occasion highlighted the importance of unity, collaboration, and stronger relationships between Nigerian and other African communities in Sweden. It was a beautiful reminder that our heritage is not only something to remember and celebrate, but also a foundation upon which we can build a brighter future.
The Nigerian Community in Skåne extends its heartfelt appreciation to our special guests, representatives of other African communities, community leaders, volunteers, performers, families, and everyone who attended and contributed to the success of the celebration.
As we celebrated 66 years of independence, our message remained clear: we honour where we come from, celebrate who we are, and together inspire the generations that will shape our future.
Happy 66th Independence Anniversary, Nigeria! 🇳🇬
One People. Stronger Together.
