November 2025: Town Hall Meeting with Social Services

On the 22nd of November 2025, the Nigerian Community Skåne, in collaboration with Malmö’s Social Service Department hosted a powerful town hall meeting themed “From Awareness to Trust: Understanding Social Services and Strengthening Our Families.”

The gathering brought together parents, youth, community leaders, and social workers for an open and honest conversation about how social services function in Sweden—and how families can build stronger, safer support systems.

Building Understanding, Building Trust
One of the major aims of the event was to bridge the gap between perception and reality. Many immigrant families often face uncertainty or fear when interacting with social services. Through clear explanations, real case examples, and interactive discussions, social workers helped demystify their roles – highlighting that their core mission is protection, support, and empowerment not punishment.

A Safe Space for Questions and Dialogue
Participants had the opportunity to openly ask questions about family support, children’s rights, parental responsibilities, and the processes involved if social services become engaged with a family. The Nigerian Community Skåne ensured that the atmosphere was warm, respectful, and solution-focused.

Stronger Families, Stronger Community
The event reinforced a shared vision: when families are informed and supported, communities grow stronger. By moving from awareness to trust, both the Nigerian Community Skåne and Malmö’s Social Service Department took an important step toward nurturing understanding, reducing fear, and promoting well-being for all families.

This collaboration sets the stage for future initiatives aimed at education, empowerment, and stronger community ties.
